Multisyllabic Words
Multisyllabic words are words with more than one syllable or beat in the word when spoken out loud. They might have two syllables (like in the word baby), three syllables (as in the word gorilla), four syllables (like in the word calculator), and so on.
As words become more complex and have more syllables, many young children may struggle to say them. It can help to break apart words into their individual syllables to help teach these complicated words.
If you find your child is having extreme difficulty saying multisyllabic words correctly, or isn’t able to correctly say various speech sounds, it is recommended that you reach out to a licensed speech therapist.
